Named by Wheeler Survey in 1878

"Nathaniel D. Arnot was a superior judge of Alpine County from 1879 to 1904. (Maule.) The name of the peak is on the atlas sheet 56B of the Wheeler Survey, 1878-79. The creek first appears on the 1898 Dardanelles 30' map."
