Named by BGN in 1985

"The peak of 9,187 feet, located northwest of Emerald Bay above D. L. Bliss State Park, is named for Jeffrey 'Jake' Smith (1954-1982), and in honor of other persons who also died in an avalanche in the Alpine Meadows Ski Area on March 31, 1982. (BGN, 1985.)"
