Mt. Johnson (12,871 ft.)

Named by R. B. Marshall in 1917

"In 1917 R. B. Marshall named a peak northeast of Parker Pass in memory of Willard D. Johnson of the USGS. (This is now named 'Mount Lewis', on the Mono Craters 15' quad.) But there was already a 'Johnson Peak' [also named by Marshall] none miles to the west, so the name 'Mount Johnson' was transferred to a peak on the Sierra crest close to mountains named for other notable members of the Geological Survey: Powell, Thompson, Gilbert, and Goode.

Johnson (1861-1917) was a topographer with the USGS from 1882 to 1913. He was mainly concerned with mapping and glacial studies in the Sierra Nevada and Colorado, and made first ascents of Banner Peak, 1893, and Mount Darwin, 1908."
