"'Lone Pine Creek' and all the other 'Lone Pine' names derive from a large pine tree growing at the confluence of Lone Pine and Tuttle creeks when the first white settlers came to Owens Valley in the early 1860s. (Historic Spots, 118.) the pine blew down in a storm in 1876."
