Silver Peak (11,878 ft.)

Named by T.S. Solomons in 1892

Also Pass, Creek, Divide, Lake

"Theodore S. Solomons named Silver Creek in 1892 for its silvery appearance, and he later named the peak from the stream. (Farquhar: Solomons.) The creek is the only one of these features to appear on Solomons' map of 1896. The pass and the divide apparently were named by the USGS during the 1907-09 survey for the Mt. Goddard 30' map, 1912. The other features were first named on the 15-minute map, 1953."
- Peter Browning, Place Names of the Sierra Nevada

"This word is found in the names of more than seventy-five physical features in California. A number of these - including the Peak, Creek, Valley, and the old mining towns Silver Mountain and Silverking in Alpine Co. - were named for the presence of silver ore. Most of them, however, especially the many Creeks and Lakes, were given the name because of their silvery appearance."

- Erwin G. Gudde, California Place Names
