Snow Mountain West (7,038 ft.)

"The mountain's relative closeness to the ocean assures plenty of moisture, and its height assures that much of the precipitation falls as snow, giving Snow Mountain its name."
- Gary Suttle, California County Summits

Snow, Snowy

"These words are found in the names of a number of orographic features, including a Snowball Mountain [Santa Barbara Co.]. They have not, however, attained the same prominence in California nomenclature as the corresponding Spanish word, nevada. Mount Lassen was formerly known as Snow Butte, and on early American maps the name Sierra Nevada was translated as 'Snowy Mountains.'"
