Named by Chester Versteeg in 1935

"Named in honor of the legendary Paiute chief, Tinemaha. The creek was named first; it appeared on the Bishop 30' map, 1913. The peak was known by this name to early prospectors and cattlemen of Owens Valley. The name was proposed formally by Chester Versteeg in 1935. (Farquhar files.)"
