This was a quick bike and hike while in Pismo with the family for Mothers Day.
I'd been to this summit overlooking Pismo Bay on two previous occasions, the
last time some seven years ago. I used the route up the Southeast Ridge,
starting from the Welcome to Pismo Beach sign on Shell Beach Rd. The
bike ride was about 4mi each way and mostly flat, the hike about a mile to the
summit with maybe 800ft of gain. Poppies and a few other varieties of
flowers were in bloom, the fog having retreated from the coast to give some
pretty nice views of Avila Beach to the west and Shell Beach to
the southeast. Cell towers crowd the summit, but there's at
least a dilapidated bench to take in the ocean views. I spent just
under an hour on the hike, about and hour and a half including the biking
portion.
