On our way back to San Jose from Pismo Beach, my daughter and I stopped in Atascadero for an easy hike just off US101 at the junction with SR41. Pine Mtn is the highpoint of Stadium Park, with several miles of trails traveling the oak woodland understory on the lower slopes and chaparral-covered hillsides higher up. There is a survey marker labeled "ASUNCION" at the highpoint, named after the old Mexican land grant for the area. It was a pleasant enough hike in Spring conditions, a short leg-stretcher taking less than an hour to survey the trail system.
