The family was in Pismo Beach for Mother's Day weekend, and this was just a
short outing in the middle of the day to get a few of us a bit of a workout.
The 30min drive and 1,300ft of gain discouraged others from joining us, but
we had fun with just the three of us. We used the Valencia Peak trail
up and back, starting from Spooners Cove in Montana de Oro State Park.
It took us a little under an hour to make our way to the summit, a
little more for the return. Jackie was able to show Richard her skills in
catching lizards, something she hadn't done since she was much younger.
I was hoping the poppies would be in greater abundance with this year's
record rains, but they were mostly confined to the higher elevations on
the west side of the summit. The fog on this part of the coast was confined to
the shoreline, giving us clear blue skies with some nice views.
